Driveway and Concrete Cleaning in Wake County: Cost and What to Expect

By Ben Bell · October 12, 2026

A clean driveway changes how the whole front of a house reads. It is also the single most satisfying before-and-after in this business, because concrete holds dirt so evenly that most people stop noticing how gray it has gotten.

What you are actually removing

Concrete in Wake County collects three different things, and they do not come off the same way.

Organic growth. The green-black film on shaded sections is algae and mildew feeding on moisture. It needs a cleaning solution, not just pressure.

Embedded dirt and tire traffic. This is what surface cleaning handles well.

Stains. Oil, rust from irrigation water, and leaf tannin all need targeted treatment before the main clean.

A quote that treats all three as one thing usually means only the second one is getting addressed.

Why some driveways come out striped

Zebra striping happens when a contractor cleans with a narrow spray wand and misses their overlaps. Each pass leaves a clean stripe with a dirty gap beside it, and once concrete is cleaned unevenly you cannot hide it. The fix is equipment: a rotary surface cleaner covers a wide path at even pressure, so the finish is consistent across the whole slab.

If a contractor is quoting a driveway and they only carry a wand, that is worth asking about.

What changes the price

Size is the obvious factor. Beyond that: how much organic growth is present, whether there are oil or rust stains needing treatment, how many separate areas are included (driveway plus walkway plus back patio), and access to water.

Is sealing worth it?

Sometimes. Sealer slows how fast stains soak in and makes future cleanings easier, and it deepens the color of decorative or stamped concrete. On a plain functional driveway it is optional. On a stamped patio or a driveway you just paid to have cleaned, it protects the work. We will give you a straight answer for your specific surface rather than upselling it automatically.

Best time of year

Spring, after pollen season, is when most people want it done. Concrete can be cleaned nearly year-round here as long as temperatures stay above freezing, so fall and winter are good times to get on the schedule without waiting.

Why we do not post flat rates

A price without a measurement is a guess, and guesses are how people end up with a number on the phone that changes when someone actually shows up. We measure the property, quote the real thing, and the number we give you is the number you pay.

Estimates are free and most go out the same day. Text a photo or your address to 919-777-4103 and you will have a real price, not a range.
